Dr. Hilary Bicknell is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in orthopedics. Her passion is helping people find relief from pain or limitation to get them back to the activities they love. Throughout her career, she has earned a certification in Neurological Dry Needling for pain management and sports rehabilitation from Integrative Dry Needling.
In her free time, Hilary enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, and exploring new places. You can find her snowboarding in the winter and boating during the summer.

Lance Howard is a Physical Therapist Assistant who specializes in orthopedics, spine, sports-related injuries, headaches, and cervical and lumbar joints. He loves that he can help people recover from injury, improve their function or quality of life, and help patients return to the activities they love.
He is also a Clinical Instructor for PTA students and a mentor at Highbar and East Providence High School. He has volunteered as a coach with Riverside Little League, St. Luke Soccer, and the American Youth Soccer Organization.
When he’s not in the clinic, Lance loves spending time with his wife, Jennifer, his 2 children, Emily and Alex, and his dog, Milo. He enjoys staying active by skiing, golfing, boating, and hiking, but is always looking for places to travel for his next adventure!

Dr. Heather Fontaine is a physical therapist who graduated from Springfield College in 2024. She grew up in Brimfield, MA where she first found her passion for physical therapy attending many appointments in the hospital, outpatient, and home care settings with her mom, Paula. She is dedicated to helping patients return to their prior level of function and beyond, while giving them the tools to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. When she is not in the clinic, you will probably see Heather running around Aquidneck Island preparing for road races anywhere from 5Ks to the marathon.

Gregory Doucette MPT, OCS is a board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist who specializes in orthopedics, spine, and sports-related injuries. He loves helping people and hearing their stories. He finds it rewarding to see a patient have the “lightbulb” moment when they realize they aren’t fragile or broken and they can get back to the activities they love. His passion is patient education and teaching the importance of core stability for sound functional movement.
When he’s not spending time with his family or friends, Greg loves to play basketball, soccer, and golf. He and his family are season ticket holders for Quinnipiac basketball and return to campus frequently to support their alma mater.

Dr. Sawyer Stapp PT, DPT earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Mount Saint Mary's University in 2022, following his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from California Lutheran University in 2017. Dr. Stapp specializes in orthopedics, headaches, sports injuries, and spine care. His passion for physical therapy lies in helping patients get back to the activities they love, whether that's returning to the field for a sport or enjoying daily walks.
Originally from the Central Coast of California, Sawyer recently relocated to Rhode Island with his fiancée, Kaitlin, and their golden retriever, Pepper. He brings his personal experiences as an athlete into his practice, helping athletes of all levels recover and reach their goals. Outside of the clinic, Sawyer enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, and participating in escape rooms. A dedicated sports fan, he especially loves football and is a long-time supporter of the Minnesota Vikings.

Dr. Shawn Blankenship is the Clinic Director at our Middletown clinic and a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in orthopedics, spine, sports-related injuries, post-stroke, and traumatic brain injuries. He’s passionate about connecting with his patients to educate and empower them in their recovery. In his past roles, Shawn has served as an Adjunct Professor for Seton Hall University’s Physical Therapy program.
When he’s not in the clinic, Shawn enjoys playing golf, running, and road biking. You can usually find him rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes or spending time with his wife and dog.

Dr. Reid Holden is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in orthopedics, sports-related injuries, hockey, football, lacrosse, baseball, and rugby. After playing sports his entire life, Reid attended physical therapy to get him back on the field after some major injuries. His personal experiences at physical therapy and his love for working with people motivated him to become a physical therapist to help people do what they love.
While earning his degree, Dr. Holden provided free physical therapy services to the greater New Haven area. Through his time treating, he gained a true passion for sports rehabilitation and orthopedics. He is now an adjunct lab professor for orthopedics at Bryant University.
In his free time, Dr. Holden plays in local men's hockey leagues and loves spending his spare time hiking or relaxing at the lake.

Meet Camden Marcotte, PT, DPT, NCS, OCS, a Doctor of Physical Therapy known for his commitment to guiding individuals through their rehabilitation journeys. Holding a Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from MCPHS University, Marcotte boasts dual certifications in Neurologic and Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. His diverse expertise includes certifications as a Blood Flow Restriction Rehabilitation provider, an ImPACT Trained Physical Therapist, and proficiency in whole-body dry needling. As a clinical instructor, he has mentored five Physical Therapy students, emphasizing his dedication to education and mentorship. Marcotte derives great fulfillment from contributing to patients' recovery stories, whether it involves post-stroke mobility or returning to sports and daily activities after surgery.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Camden Marcotte is a multilingual individual currently learning Portuguese and Spanish. Dr. Kathleen Rafanelli is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in orthopedics. She loves being a clinician because it allows her to promote and encourage her patients to live a healthier lifestyle so they can experience the positive effects of exercise on their mental, physical, and social health. She also enjoys helping her patients regain function in their daily activities by reducing their pain and increasing their range of motion.
She loves traveling and has been to many places around the world, including Vellore India where she worked with physical therapists at the Christian Medical College to learn about cultural norms and observe similarities and differences across the profession. Her first clinical rotation was at the VA in Providence and a unique, 5-month clinical rotation at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. While working on the base, she practiced in an environment where she was able to rehabilitate active duty military members as they train at their duty stations and prepare for their deployment.

Dr. Marie Carreras PT, DPT, has been a physical therapist since 2011. After graduating, she gained experience in a variety of settings, including acute care, schools, home health, skilled nursing facilities, and long-term acute care. In 2017, she transitioned to outpatient orthopedics, where she began noticing certain patient symptoms related to the pelvic floor that could not be addressed with general orthopedic knowledge.
Marie specializes in inclusive pelvic health, maternity/postpartum care, and general orthopedics. Marie is passionate about helping individuals develop body awareness, address concerns, adapt as needed, and optimize their progress. Her decision to pursue physical therapy was inspired by her own experiences with physical therapy following injuries as a teen and young adult.

Director of Pediatrics, Dr. Sarah Goldstein, is a Board-Certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist and a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in pediatric physical therapy care and orthopedics. Her diagnoses of expertise include torticollis, plagiocephaly, cerebral palsy, scoliosis, gross motor delay, and developmental delay. She has been caring for pediatric patients since graduating in 2017 and refers to them all as "her kids".
She loves working as a physical therapist because she can positively impact someone’s quality of life, whether that be within the home, in recreation, or at work. Dr. Sarah participated in ballet her whole life, retiring finally in 2023, and loves to work with the dance population to ensure safety with participation and show-readiness. With her specialty in pediatrics, she loves that she can take the “boring” out of another doctor’s appointment for a child by creating a fun, entertaining, safe, and exciting environment to help the child and family reach their goals.

Dr. Brian Hay PT, DPT, MS, OCS is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist who specializes in manual therapy, dry needling, running and gait analysis, sports rehabilitation, youth athlete injury prevention, orthopedics, injury prevention/rehabilitation in runners, and biomechanical analysis. He also serves as a Regional Director.
An avid runner himself, Brian developed the Highbar Running Academy to help fellow therapists learn to best treat the needs of the running athlete. He is also a Certified Executive Coach and uses his experience to help develop emerging leaders at Highbar through the Lead the Way program and as a Clinical Instructor for Brown University medical students. He's also traveled to Honduras to provide physical therapy services to communities in rural Honduras with the Brown University Branch of Shoulder-to-Shoulder, Inc., an organization that works collaboratively to create and operate sustainable and accessible health, nutrition, and education services in that region.
In his free time, Brian loves spending time with his wife and two boys. He likes to keep active by running long distance, playing golf, hiking, and traveling.

Julianne Harp is a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant at Highbar Physical Therapy's Richmond clinic. She holds an Associate Degree from the New England Institute of Technology. Julianne's specialties include orthopedics, headaches, sports injuries, pregnancy/OB, vestibular, pelvic health, spine, pediatrics, dance, occupational health, aquatics, and TMJ. In August 2023, she completed the Level 1 Pelvic Health certification from the Herman and Wallace Institute.
Julianne's passion for physical therapy began in 2008 when she was a patient herself. This experience ignited her desire to help others, which continues to be her driving force. She loves being a Physical Therapist Assistant because it allows her to provide patients with the tools, education, and care they need for lifelong health and wellness. Her dedication to individualized treatment and empathy for her patients is evident in her daily practice.
Outside of work, Julianne enjoys spending time with her three children and engaging in various outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, lifting, camping, skiing, and cherishing the simple joys of life. Aquatics Director, Dr. Amanda Fitzgerald is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in orthopedics, balance & falls, and aquatics. Her passion for helping patients return to the activities they love inspired her to pursue a career in physical therapy.

Amanda Moran ATC, LMT is a Certified Athletic Trainer who works with East Providence High School and our East Providence clinic. During high school, she fractured her ankle playing softball. This piqued her interest in the field of rehabilitation, which led her to a career in athletic training. She loves helping athletes go from a very low point to then regaining their strength and returning back to their sport.
Amanda also helped the East Providence High School receive the 1st team Safe School Sport award (May 2016-2019). Most recently, she completed the Highbar Lead the Way program.
In her free time, Amanda likes cooking new recipes, reading, and biking. For over 10 years she has participated in the MS 150 Bike Ride, raising money for multiple sclerosis.

Erin Botelho MSPT, OCS, is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and physical therapist who specializes in orthopedics, women’s health, shoulder injuries, and knee injuries. Her passion is learning about each patient and their experiences, fears, and successes in order to help them reach their goals. She believes that treating the injury may help the pain but treating the person will allow them to get back to their lives and the activities they love.
When she’s not treating patients or shuttling her children from dance rehearsals and sports practices, she loves spending time in the quiet outdoors and eating good food. She and her family love to escape their busy schedules by visiting Cape Cod and soaking up the salty air to re-energize. She has also begun testing out her green thumb and welcomes any gardening tips from her patients!

She has treated patients spanning from 25 weeks gestation in the NICU all the way through age 106! Her passion is to watch her patients transform from being scared, frustrated, or angry to becoming able to participate fully in life again.

Clinic Director Dr. Andrew Horton is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in orthopedics, spine, and sports-related injuries. His passion is helping patients reach their goals to get back to their sport, hobby, or everyday activity and live their best life. Andrew leads the Highbar Dry Needling certification program and is certified in both Dry Needling Level 1 & 2. He has also earned certifications in Functional Movement System (Levels 1&2), Selective Functional Movement Assessment, and Clinical Integration.
Andrew lives in North Kingstown with his wife, two children, and their therapy dog, Mix. He likes to stay active by playing soccer, exercising, hiking, wake surfing, playing spike ball, and biking. His favorite sports teams are Manchester United, USMNT, Celtics, Red Sox, and the Boston Bruins. Meet Anjelia Altebrando, a dedicated physical therapist at Highbar specializing in orthopedics and spine care. She holds a Bachelors of Science and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Springfield College, earned in 2022 and 2024 respectively. Anjelia is certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling through Highbar since 2023 and is affiliated with RIAPTA. Passionate about helping patients reclaim their active lifestyles, she finds fulfillment in facilitating their return to favorite activities. Anjelia has shared her expertise through speaking engagements, including a panel on diversity, equity, and inclusion in education at the 2022 APTA Fall conference. Beyond her professional achievements, she enjoys coaching lacrosse, supporting the NY Yankees and Giants, watching Friends, and exploring new restaurants.


Dr. Jay Knoerlein earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Ithaca College in 2023. He specializes in orthopedics, sports injuries, and spine care. Dr. Knoerlein is passionate about empowering patients to use their own bodies to improve function and enhance their quality of life. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Knoerlein is an avid sports enthusiast. Having grown up playing competitive soccer and basketball, he remains a dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Boston Celtics.

He was inspired to pursue a career in physical therapy by watching his mother, who was a long-time nurse.

Dr. Jesse Rudolph is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in orthopedics. He chose a career in physical therapy because he finds it deeply rewarding to help his patients get back to the sports or activities they love.
Jesse ran cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track at the collegiate level for all four years at Heidelberg University and worked at a specialty running store while he was pursuing his DPT. He loves to help others understand proper running form and how proper footwear can make all the difference.

In his free time, Patrick enjoys hiking the 48 (4,000 ft) mountains in New Hampshire and kayaking in both rivers and oceans. Always accompanied by his dog, Quinn, he loves talking about philosophy and Lord of the Rings, but always wants to learn the latest bit of trivia knowledge.
