The Highbar Way
Rooted in Purpose, Driven by People
Our Purpose
HISTORY
RAISING THE BAR FOR
25 + YEARS!
Our story began more than 25 years ago when our first clinic opened as Performance Physical Therapy in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Built by physical therapists, we started with a simple but powerful question: How can we be better? Better physical therapists, better healthcare providers, and better at creating opportunity for our people, our patients, and the communities we serve.
That question laid the foundation for what would become HIGHBAR —a place where clinical excellence and compassionate care could thrive together. Over the next two decades, we built a reputation for raising the standard of physical therapy across New England, guided by a vision not only to serve patients, but to advance the profession itself.
As we grew, so did our impact. Through the addition of Peak, JVPT, and PTU, we expanded our reach and strengthened our commitment to education, mentorship, and clinical excellence—bringing together organizations that shared a belief in developing people as intentionally as we deliver care.
In 2023, we unified under the name HIGHBAR Physical Therapy—a name that reflects our commitment to setting a higher standard in everything we do. This transformation marked our evolution from a single clinic into a comprehensive network dedicated to elevating the entire physical therapy profession and the communities we serve.
Today, with approximately 53 clinics and a growing team across New England, we remain grounded in that same purpose: to empower people to feel better, move freely, and live fully. What started as a single practice has become a thriving movement—one that supports our people, strengthens our communities, and helps shape the future of physical therapy.

Values of Highbar physical therapy
Mission
Develop leading-edge physical therapists who deliver life-changing outcomes – to empower people to feel better, move freely, and live fully.
Vision
At Highbar, we envision a day when physical therapists are the trusted first call for movement and well-being—not just when pain strikes, but when people want to move better and perform at their best. We're here to help people be their best selves in every way that matters. Because when people move better, they live happier and healthier lives.
Community
Invested in your health and your community.
Highbar is led by local physical therapists across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Built by physical therapists, for communities, each of our clinics is deeply rooted in the neighborhoods we serve. Our teams don’t just work in these communities—they live here, raise their families here, and call these places home.
This local connection means we’re invested in not only providing physical therapy, but our communities’ wellbeing as well. You’ll find our team members volunteering at local events, supporting youth sports programs, coaching, raising awareness about injury prevention, and partnering with schools and organizations to promote health, movement, and wellness. We make decisions and provide services that empower our communities to lead healthy, fulfilling, and happy lives.

Philanthropy
We’re More Than a PT Provider—We’re a Partner in Community Health.
As local Rhode Island and Massachusetts community members, it is important to us to support our communities in meaningful ways. Organizations we support.
